The Implant and Aesthetic Academy is the
brainchild of three of South Africa’s leading Implantologists.
Due to the lack of definitive implantology training at recognized
institutions in South Africa this dynamic team decided to
open their academy which strives for excellence in Implant
and Aesthetic dentistry.
The Implant & Aesthetic Academy cc
is based in Cape Town and offers specialized courses for dental
professionals in the fields of implantology and periodontics.
The courses are presented by Dr Howard
Gluckman and Dr Mark Otto.
HOWARD GLUCKMAN graduated from the University of
the Witwatersrand in1990 and later from The University of
Stellenbosch (1998) Cum Laude in oral medicine and periodontics.
He then went into part time private practice and was a consultant
in Implantology, Oral Medicine and Periodontics at the University
of the Western Cape. He is a past founder and course lecturer
of the Post Graduate Diploma in Implantology at both the universities
of Stellenbosch and the Western Cape. Additionally he is a
past president of the Alpha Omega Society as well as being
a past secretary of the South African Society of Periodontics.
Presently he runs his private practice in Cape Town full time
as well as a part time practice in the United Kingdom. He
also lectures at many national congresses.
DR MARK OTTO graduated from the University
of the Witwatersrand in 1982. He was the recipient of the
Middleton-Shaw Colgate Prize at the International Association
for Dental Research in the same year.
He has been working in full time private
practice in Kenilworth and part time in the United Kingdom.
His practice is limited to the placement and restoration of
implants and prosthodontics. While placing implants in his
own practice, Dr Otto has made it his policy to attend world-renowned
international clinics and implant-related congresses every
year in order to keep abreast of developing techniques in
implantology and bone regeneration.
Otto is a past founder and course lecturer of the Post Graduate
Diploma in Implantology at the universities of Stellenbosch
and the Western Cape. He has lectured extensively in South
Africa and internationally on dental implants. He is the co-founder
and president of the Cape Society of Dental Implantology and
is on the editorial board of the South African Dental Journal
The Implant and Aesthetic Academy also
host international lecturers thereby ensuring that course
participants are kept abreast of international developments
in Implantology and Periodontics. The IAA was proud to host
both Professor Paul Weigl and Dr Bernd Giesenhagen from Germany
in March last year (2007). They showed major paradigm shifts
in Implantology by their creative thinking and this impacted
on all who attended the courses.
Recently the IAA has been invited
by DENTSPLY, Friadent to become members of and participate
in the International Master Speaker's Forum. The IAA curriculum
has also received international accreditation from the J.
W. Goethe University of Frankfurt. This is the first time
in South Africa that a private institution has been offered
an internationally accredited diploma.
